Scope & Content: This series primarily consists of a design summary, design history, preliminary design, test reports, design studies, a planning study and a weapons study, relating to a proposed Polaris missile-armed ship that would be manned by personnel from a proposed North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Multilateral Force (MLF). The preliminary design and planning study was prepared by the Bureau of Ships, the test reports by the Navy's David Taylor Model Basin, and the design summary and history by the firm J. J. Henry. The series also includes a report of findings and other materials from a MLF conference held in Washington, D.C. in November 1964, a number of brochures from European ship engine manufacturers, and drawings.
