Fusleage Code: Squadron Number – Aircraft Type – Aircraft Number

Application: The seventh fighter in VF-5 would have the code 5-F-7 on the fuselage, and because it was the lead plane in the third section, it would have a true blue cowling, wing chevron, and fuselage band. The second plane in the section would only have the upper half of the cowling painted true blue, while the third would have the lower half painted. The wing chevrons in all instances would be the section color.
