Subj: Model XP6M-1 Airplanes, establishment of model designation

1. Purpose. This notice informs Bureau of Aeronautics personnel of the establishment of the "XP6M-1" model designation.
2. Model Designation Establishment. The Bureau of Aeronautics has initiated procurement with the Glenn L. Martin Company, Baltimore, Maryland for the design, development and production of a long range, high performance jet propelled seaplane. This seaplane will have swept-back wings, "Tee" tail, long after body hull and 4 jets. In accordance with the requirements of reference (a), the model designation "XP6M-1" is hereby established for the airplane described above.
3. Action Required. On or before 5 Nov 1952, all bureau divisions concerned with the Model XP6M-1 Airplanes shall identify the airplanes in accordance with the subject model designation. This designation shall apply to all correspondence, aircraft service changes, aircraft bulletins, specifications, drawings, publications, records and other official business.
4. Cancellation. Cancel this notice upon receipt of the next revision of reference (b) which will be published on or about 15 Nov 1952.
